Island-born showbiz writer and broadcaster John Hannam, who has interviewed an incredible 5,000 people over the last 44 years, is releasing his latest book next Friday (5th October).

The first 2 books in the John Hannam Interviews series featured the stories behind his interviews with pop stars of the 50s, 60s and 70s and stars of stage and screen. This latest release is entitled ‘The Wight Connections’ and features over 120 people with connections with the Isle of Wight.

There are many past and present local characters and celebrities included in the book. There are local councillors, sports stars, entertainers and real Island legends including Stephen Ross; Sylvia Jones; Keith Newbery; The Cherokees; David Gurd; Dave Death; Den Phillips; Wilf Pine; Wally Edwards; Eddie, Gloria and Anthony Minghella; Henry Adams and Bill Brett.

The Wight Connections also includes locally-born famous faces like Cliff Michelmore; Phill Jupitus; Brian Murphy; Mark King and Sheila Hancock. Others who have made the Island their home include  Celia Imrie; Michael Sheard; Dick Taylor and Alan Titchmarsh.

Sports stars, both locally and nationally famous, include Carl Prean; Roy Shiner; Oscar Stretch; Keith Allen; Lee Bradbury; Jeff Hose; Gary Rowett; Graham Daish; Danny Briggs and Jonathan Griffiths.

John has told Island Echo:

“All my life I have been excited and inspired by the success of Island people, from all walks of life. This new book gives me the chance to pay tribute to them. Some are no longer with us but I constantly still think of them and the pleasure they gave me.”

The book will be available from local Island shops and online. John will be signing copies at Glyn Morgan’s of Shanklin from 10:00 on Saturday 6th October.
