Deichmann, Europe’s largest shoe retailer, is set to open its first store on the Isle of Wight later this year with the creation of 15 jobs, it has been announced.
It has been confirmed that the retailer is heading to South Street in Newport, thought to be occupying the former H&M premises.
The shoe stockist will be going head-to-head with Sports Direct located just a few doors down.
It is currently anticipated that the store, which stocks a full range of shoes for men, women and children, will open in October following a £400,000 fit-out.
15 staff members are being recruited in a number of different roles, with recruitment days set to be held at Newport Jobcentre Plus on Staplers Road on 15th and 16th August.
As well as creating new jobs, the arrival of Deichmann to Newport means 1 less empty property in the town.
The nearest Deichmann store currently is at the Cascades Shopping Centre in Portsmouth.
