The townspeople of Shanklin are celebrating success in the South East in Bloom Awards, receiving not only a coastal community award but a silver gilt award overall too.
The judges highlighted the contribution made by Shanklin Green Town Volunteers, the work of Shanklin in Bloom, partnerships with local schools and the local youth centre.
Specific areas in the town highlighted by the judges included Shanklin Bowling Club, Shanklin Chine, the War Memorial, Tower Cottage, Rylstone Gardens, a number of local churches and the Royal British Legion.
Shanklin Mayor, Steve Knight, said:
“This award is a credit to all involved in making the town such an attractive place for visitors and residents alike.
“The Town continues to punch above its weight regionally and nationally, and this award further reflects the investment made by the Town Council in partnership with our local Community – this recognition is a credit to all involved”.
Mayoress Esther Knight added:
“It was good to see so many Island Towns and Parishes, as well as businesses, represented at the Regional Awards Ceremony – and Shanklin’s efforts were really appreciated by all at the event”.
