SHANKLIN VOLUNTEERS SALUTED BY ALLO ALLO! STAR

Keep Britain Tidy ambassador and former Allo Allo! actress, Vicki Michelle MBE, took time out from her Hormonal Housewives stage show recently to present special Seaside and Green Flag Awards in recognition of the work undertaken by volunteers in Shanklin.

Volunteers from Shanklin Youth Centre, alongside Green Town Volunteers, help maintain green spaces around the town including the Youth Centre, Community Library, War Memorial and Theatre. They have received the Green Flag Award annually for their voluntary community efforts.

Councillor Steve Knight, Town Mayor and Youth Centre Trustee, said:

“Shanklin is very fortunate to have so many groups and individuals that give up their time for the community and these Awards are a tribute to the time and commitment made for the benefit of residents and tourists alike”.

Keep Britain Tidy run the national Green Flag and Seaside/Blue Flag Awards schemes, in which Shanklin regularly participates.

Shanklin Town has also been shortlisted for South East England in Bloom Awards, for the standards of its parks, floral displays and community gardens.

Shanklin VYCC Chairman Paul Biddlecombe added:

“We are grateful that Vicki took time out from her hectic schedule to present the Awards – she congratulated all involved for making a difference: and she said it only once!”
