The Gift Shop Cavanagh & Baker on Shanklin High Street in Shanklin Old Village is set to close at the end of this year.
Cavanagh & Baker will be holding a pre-Christmas Sale in which all goods are on offer at a 25% discount.
The proprietors of the shop have said:
“To all our wonderful friends and followers, we would like to thank you for all of your support, custom and loyalty over our years of serving you.
“Sadly, due to a variety of reasons, we are closing our doors at the end of 2022. This has not been an easy decision to make for us and it is with a heavy heart that we are writing this post.
“We have decided to do to a Pre-Christmas sale this year instead of waiting until January, as we know times are difficult for many at the moment, and we’d like to give a last dose of positivity before we go.
“There is currently 25% off everything in store, Including wines, spirits, hampers, and gifts.”
we went to Shanklin in the summer only to find the shops shut. all island shops are going down the pan
Very true, the Fish and Chip shop hardly ever opens, unlike June’s Fish and Chip shop.
I remember the days when even Gift shops would be open until 10pm in the summer.
Nowdays it’s a Ghost town after 5pm
Such a shame. I wonder what shop will be next.
Maybe the Rock Shop!, over the years I have spent pounds in the Rock Shop but with Poundland etc, why pay double or more for many items.
Many businesses are not doing themselves any favours.
What with taxes/business rates etc it’s a wonder any small shops can survive the current conservative onslaught against the general public.
How come the Conservatives keep doing this to us?
I am afraid the way things are going many shops will follow in the coming weeks, many retailers rely on xmas to see them through the year. Times are hard for a lot of people at the moment and the money simply is not there.
Very sad to hear this news. Not just for Adam and Jack, but for all the Island businesses that they supported and promoted tirelessly over the past few years. The branding for both the Emporium and Restaurant were spot on. Wishing you the very best for the future. I hope that these two prime position premises in the old village do not fall into disrepair and effect the remaining businesses.
