A prisoner serving a life term has been ordered to pay compensation of £64.05 after he set his cell on fire last year. Billy Williams, 31, of HMP Isle of Wight, admitted arson when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday). Crown Prosecutor Munayah Hassanm told the court that on 17th January 2023, at around 20:45, a fire alarm was raised in the segregation unit at HMP Isle of Wight. Prison officers entered Williams’ cell – where the blaze broke out – and fought the fire before dragging a then unconscious Williams from the cell. The 31-year-old suffered no serious injuries and was just treated for smoke inhalation. Damage to the cell floor was caused during the fire. Williams was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 12 years back in April 2022 for aggravated burglary, false imprisonment and sexual assault on an elderly woman. His earliest release date is 2034. Defending Williams, Georgia-Mae Chung told the court that her client had committed the act in an attempt to take his own life and that the incident was initially dealt with by way of a prison adjudication – but it soon came to light that Police had charged him. Magistrates ordered that Williams pay compensation of £64.05, which will go towards fixing the fire damage caused to his cell.

Another waste of public money, legal aid and Court Costs just to fine him £64.(I know that’s quite a bit for prisoners)If he had set the fire in block of flats he would be charged with arson and intent to endanger life and probably got another ten years. they were also safe in the very next country they arrived in, after leaving the one they started out in.
Better question was why Police pushed for it. Silly decision.
Immigrants offspring IF you haven’t noticed are ruining every City their parents have settled in.
So how ‘can’ an immigrant that has only just arrived (yet still broke the law on day one by doing so) have had the chance to commit others.
You are so dim, of course they want a better life, but for them to gain such is at OUR expense and not just financially. All we want education for their numerous offspring, all we get free NHS help, all we eventually be given a home, taking up more British vanishing countryside and many will be involved in serious crime.
Clearly once safely here they aren’t dimmer than the Brits, so will use the system of having kids to gain a home,and income for life, so we import more etc etc
Percentage-wise, more immigrants work than Brits do. Most immigrants are here on visas in professional positions (look up the stats), so the net gain to us increases because they pay more taxes than most people. Give me an example of one of these ‘ruined cities’ so I can analyse it for you. Of the illegal immigrants, due in part to this governments ineptitude, the rate is falling, and as I’ve told you before are mainly trafficked Albanian young women and children because we have underground market for sex the rest of EU clamp down on, hence the bypassing of other countries. If they were returned it would be rinse and repeat. Of the other offenders, the cost of removal to Rwanda is £1.8m. Each. You heard that right.
So I’ll do a quick fag-packet calculation for you. For the price paid, one illegal migrant could at worst case scenario be housed and given money to live on equivalent to the current benefits cap of £23k for 78 YEARS before the £1.8m threshold was breached. Added to which those payments would be needed slowly via future taxation, not in one lump sum likely to cripple the country merely to appease the xenophobic like you. Migration isn’t the problem, wilful ignorance is.

The prisoner has added another failure to his long list of failures in his life – “attempted suicide” – couldn’t even do the job properly. Useless waster.
You really could’nt make it up …could you! i would of left the prick in the cell see if he do it again…but im not soft like rest.
I hope all the “soft” additions to his cell have also been removed, he is in prison as a punishment not to be mamby pambyed. Innocent people not in prison suffer more than these criminals.
