Sandown Green Town Volunteers are calling on local residents, businesses and the Town Council to work to put the ‘bloom’ back into Sandown.
They have entered the town in a new category for South and South East in Bloom called ‘Parish in Bloom’. The aim is to showcase the whole range of plants and gardening in the town, not just civic locations.
There are already many good things taking place including the work of Community Kids and the Green Town Volunteers who are already brightening up the Train Station and seafront.
Under the auspices of Arc Consultancy environmental planting is taking place in several locations. But the scheme is aimed at also recognising the good work of local residents and businesses.
Whether you have a garden or not you can play a part by encouraging friends and local businesses to plant up colourful hanging baskets and troughs and to spruce up their front gardens. Many people and local businesses already do so.
If you know of anywhere that looks particularly lovely and well-cared for let Sandown Green Town Volunteers know by e-mailing [email protected]. They would also like to hear about any conservation, local composting schemes or other activities that are being developed in Sandown aimed at improving our environment.
The visit to assess Sandown’s entry will be on 21st June so there is no time to be lost in getting your ‘green fingers’ to work.
