Junior ice hockey players, skaters and fans who were sponsored to take part in this year’s Ryde Slide have presented a cheque for over £1,400 to Wight Ice Leisure.
The hand over took place on Saturday afternoon outside the now-closed ice rink in Ryde, but it is hoped the money can help Ryde Arena Community Action Group bring ice skating back to the Isle of Wight. The Wight Ice Leisure group are now well on their way to raising the £5,000 needed to be come a CIC not-for-profit company.
In total the sliders raised an amazing £1,432; £675 of that total was raised by just 1 slider. This adds to the £1,000 donated from the proceeds of Ryde Slide itself which was presented by Cllr Wayne Whittle at a ceremony last week.
Ryde Slide will return to Union Street next year on 22nd July.
