A Ryde man who stole a user manual from a car before breaking the back gate of a commercial property in the town centre has been fined £80.
Kevin Greenwood, 43, of West Street in Ryde, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to property under £5,000 and to theft from a vehicle when he appeared before Magistrates on Friday.
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that at 19:00 on 18th September, Greenwood broke the back gate of The Star Coffee and Ale House in Ryde and walked into the garden.
The publicans of the premises noticed Greenwood committing the act and told him to leave. Upon checking CCTV to ascertain how he entered the property, the 43-year-old was seen accessing a red VW Up! that was parked on a drive adjacent to the premises.
Video captured Greenwood entering the car and stealing the user manual before exiting the vehicle and heading to the backyard of the former pub.
The damage to the spring and latches on the gate was approximately £80.
Greenwood was last in court on 27th February for an unrelated matter.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that his client had no recollection of the events of that day and that Greenwood had struggled with drug and alcohol issues.
Kevin Greenwood was handed a fine of £80, ordered to pay costs of £85, compensation of £80 and a victim surcharge of £32.

Looks like someone who needs help and support.
Don’t talk about it, go help then. Still here?
I’ve just seen him and given him £50 to tide him over. He was very pleased with the help I gave him.
… had no recollection… so this drug enthused person could have killed someone and not know anything about it.. yeah right… Prosecutor’s use any excuse.. Oh he is a good boy ! never been in trouble like this before, .
He should be locked away off our streets…

Pointless fines as they will come out of his benefits so we the public will be paying them, sentences are a total pathetic joke here.
