A Ryde man caught causing damage to the front door of Inclusion in Newport, whilst armed with a rubber mallet, has been arrested, charged and put before the courts this week. 38-year-old Craig Sheriff, of Melville Street in Ryde, was arrested on Monday evening (13th May) when Police responded to reports of an incident on Carisbrooke Road, Newport. It was during the incident that damage was caused to the door of Inclusion, which supports people affected by drugs and alcohol on the Isle of Wight. Sheriff was taken into custody at Newport Police Station and later charged with theft (of the rubber mallet), possession of an offensive weapon (namely a rubber mallet) and criminal damage. He was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court this morning (Wednesday), where he pleaded guilty to all 3 offences. He has been bailed with conditions to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court for sentencing on 5th July.
