VIDEO: Hundreds of runners, joggers and walkers filled Ryde Esplanade yesterday (Sunday) for the annual Santa Dash in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

The 5km dash got underway from Superbowl at 11:00, with a flurry of red Santas of all shapes and sizes making their way towards Appley, along to Puckpool and back again.

Although all sponsorship money has yet to be submitted, it is estimated that over £4000 has been raised so far.

Dani Johnson, Community Events Fundraiser, said:

“It was festive, fun and buzzing! Thanks to Helen from Boogie Bounce and DJ Dan, the crowd were well warmed up and filled with festive cheer before they set out. Our hosts Ryde Superbowl have also been fantastic, and we’re so grateful for their support in making such a great event.”

Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive, who started the dash, said:

“It was an incredible atmosphere, and an amazing sight to see so many Santas dashing along the seafront. We are so thankful to everyone who took part, our volunteers and helpers who together have raised a fantastic amount towards our work in supporting people when they need us most, wherever they are on the Isle of Wight.”

Crowds of spectators cheered on participants along the route.
