It has been an award-winning month for the team at The Royal and the new Head Chef has been put royally in the spotlight.
After 2 inspections in 1 week, The Royal in Ventnor successfully retains its 4-star hotel classification, 2 AA Rosettes and on top of this, the team achieved an additional prestigious Silver Award for the second successive year.
The Silver Stars are awarded to highly recommended hotels offering a superior level of quality within their star rating, high standards of hotel keeping in particular hospitality, service, cleanliness and outstanding food.
Matt Egan, The Royal’s newly-promoted Head Chef also achieved top marks with a 5-star rating for its Environmental Health inspection within the same week.
The Royal Hotel, recently crowned the ‘Best Hotel Experience on the Isle of Wight’ in the 2021 Red Funnel Awards, is one of the longest-standing hotels on the Island and was the first hotel on the Island to achieve 4 AA Stars and has now held 2 AA Rosettes for over 25 years.
Matt says:
“My first few months in my new role at The Royal have been an incredible journey and the team are going from strength to strength. The team and I were very quickly put under the spotlight with the AA Rosette inspection, and we are proud to say we maintained our Two AA Rosette status along with the additional Silver Star Award. This award coupled with our 5 out of 5 rating from Environmental Health gives a huge amount of pride and we can’t wait to take The Royal to the next level.”
William Bailey, Managing Director of The Royal, has said:
“I am so proud of our hardworking, passionate and experienced team. They have worked so incredibly hard for all our awards this year. Our new Head Chef, Matt was an award-winning Head Chef at just 21 before joining the Royal Kitchen as a Junior Sous Chef. We were delighted to promote him to the Head Chef role recently and we cannot wait see him and the Royal Kitchen Team transform the dining experience and create memorable experiences for our guests. There are some exciting plans for The Royal ahead, and we can’t wait to welcome many more guests for the Isle of Wight’s Best Hotel Experience.”

I worked at the royal and am not surprised by the recent awards, we all enjoyed working there so keeping to high standards was second nature.
