ROAD CLOSED AFTER TWO-CAR RTC

policertcroadclosednightstockUPDATED: Police have closed Forest Road, Newport this evening (Wednesday) following a two-car road traffic collision.

Emergency services, including the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, were called to the scene on Betty Haunt Lane at the junction with Forest Road at around 20:30.

One person is reported to be trapped inside a car following the serious collision and currently two appliances from Newport Fire Station are in attendance and working to free the trapped individual. Two ambulances and an ambulance officer are also in attendance.

One vehicle involved is believed to be a Black Land Rover 4×4, the occupants of which are said to be in a state of shock..

The road has been closed in both directions at the junctions of Gunville Road and Whitehouse Road whilst the incident is dealt with and the vehicle are recovered.

Southern Vectis Route 7 buses will divert via Elm Lane until further notice.

UPDATE @ 21:55 – Firefighters are this evening continuing to work to free the trapped person from their vehicle, a red Jaguar.

The driver of the Land Rover Discovery has been taken to nearby St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.

UPDATE @ 22:50 – The male driver of the Jaguar involved in tonight’s head-on collision has been freed by firefighters and transferred to St Mary’s Hospital.

The road remains closed in both directions and Southern Vectis advise that Route 7 will be on diversion via Elm Lane for the remainder of tonight.
