Restaurant Matthew Tomkinson at The Hambrough in Ventnor has been shortlisted for the prestigious Menu of the Year Award at the Cateys 2023, the largest and most coveted awards in the hospitality sector.
In a milestone year for the biggest awards of their kind in the hospitality industry, the internationally renowned Cateys have nominated Restaurant Matthew Tomkinson, a restaurant based in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, for the highly coveted Menu of the Year Award for 2023.
The Cateys are amongst the largest and most sought-after awards in the hospitality sector, recognising excellence in service, innovation and quality. The shortlisting of Restaurant Matthew Tomkinson in Ventnor is a fantastic achievement in recognition of the consistently high standards of food and innovation in menus produced in Matthew’s kitchen.
Tomkinson says:
“It is an absolute honour to have been nominated and I am astounded to have been shortlisted for the Menu of the Year 2023 award in competition with so many exciting restaurants throughout the country. I am unbelievably proud to bring recognition to our restaurant here in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight where we constantly aim for the highest quality food using our fabulous local produce wherever we can.”
“Having previously won a Cateys award for Hotel Chef of the Year in 2015 it is truly humbling to be recognised once again by such a prestigious body. Since opening the restaurant at The Hambrough on 17th May 2021, the day the hospitality world re-opened after Covid, it has been a rollercoaster ride for myself, my number 2, Chef Craig Englefield, and our team to create a destination restaurant based on the southern tip of the Isle of Wight.”
“To be nominated for this award is a testament to the hard work we have put in to ensure the consistently high standards we set ourselves have been achieved and the fantastic local produce we have on our doorstep.”
More than 100 judges, chosen for their expertise and industry knowledge, and past success as Catey winners themselves, met for 4 days of intense debate to discuss the nominees and produce the shortlists of the various categories. The winners of the awards, recognising the strongest performers and highest flyers in each sector, as determined by the industry itself, will be revealed at a glittering event on 4th July at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London.
Having won many awards throughout his career, from winning the Roux Scholarship and being a 2-time Michelin star achiever, the shortlisting of Matthew Tomkinson’s restaurant in the Menu of the Year category in 2023 provides a significant opportunity for him to showcase the excellence he continues to strive for in his restaurant ensuring that the guest experience is always at the forefront of his ethos.
