The theft of money from a car in Sandown has prompted a local resident to warn others about the situation after they forgot to lock their vehicle overnight.
It’s reported that the glovebox of a car parked in Mortonbrook was ransacked at some point between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning with a number of pound coins stolen.
Separately, a male riding a pushbike was witnessed to be trying car door handles in Aylett Close – just a stone’s throw away from the theft. The potential thief scarpered when a vehicle pulled into the residential street.
Island Echo understands a satnav was stolen from another vehicle in the Sandown area too.
Top Car Security Tips
- Choose the right place to park
- Don’t display any belongings
- Take out your stereo and sat-nav
- Add a car alarm, immobiliser or tracking device
- Be seen to be secure
- Make sure the vehicle is locked and take good care of your keys

Take out your stereo?! Literally, which century is this advice from?
Everything should to be locked now. The island has changed. The ferral low life are appearing all over the island. Residents must change or I am sorry to say this will happen more and those people who leave car doors unlocked and their homes unsecured sadly will become victims of theft.
I lived in southern italy twenty years ago and the locals said
when you park your car up day or night, leave the glove box empty and left open, as this ensures that any thieves will look through the window, see an empty glove box and won’t smash the window to find out if there is anything in the glove box
all properties in the area had
steel shutters over the windows of the homes, that you opened from indoors.
security gate at the end of the street – prevented thieves driving up or nicking your car
triple locks and no windows on front and rear doors of property.
area private security – police never around
IOW getting as bad now.
