falsealarmssebennetstreetReports of smoke issuing from the Southern and Scottish Energy depot in Ryde prompted a turnout for the local fire station this evening (Tuesday), however the situation was quickly ruled as nothing serious.

Two appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to Bennett Street, Ryde shortly before 17:45 following multiple reports of smoke coming from the large building.

Firefighters soon established the cause of the smoke, with a bonfire in a garden on Park Road confirmed as the source.

Crews left the scene shortly after.
