Hundreds of Islanders gathered in late Autumn sunshine at St Thomas’ Square in Newport to remember the fallen from 2 World Wars and other conflicts on Remembrance Sunday (13th November).
On Remembrance Sunday, we remember the service and sacrifice of those defending our freedoms and protecting our way of life. It can be justly said of the slain that: “for your tomorrow, we gave our today”.
The Remembrance Day Parade began at 10:30 on Drill Hall Road before making its way to St Thomas’ Square where 2 minutes of silence was held at 11:00.
Those taking part in the parade included military veterans, army reserves, police cadets, scouts, beavers and the Vectis Corps of Drums. Musical accompaniment to the service at St Thomas’ Square was provided by a highland piper.
Remembrance services were held throughout the towns and villages of the Island, including at Ryde, where the service was led by Heath Monaghan.

Feel Island Roads need praise as they cleared away at short notice all the road and pavement debris outside Bembridge War Memorial so as to make it safe for the service on Sunday
