UPDATED: A power cut has hit Newport this lunchtime (Friday) resulting in the closure of shops and traffic chaos with traffic lights out of action across the town, including at Coppins Bridge.
1657 customers in 126 post code areas are affected by the outage including PO30 1, PO30 2 and PO30 5 addresses.
Southern and Scottish Energy have deployed engineers to investigate the fault and currently estimate that power will be restored by 14:15.
UPDATE @ 14:00 – It has been confirmed that the high-voltage network fault has been repaired and all customers have had power restored.
‘Newport Gas Works’ remain without power and a generator has been deployed in the meantime.
