Police have subdued a suspect with the use of PAVA spray during a volatile incident at the Travelodge in Ryde tonight (Tuesday).
It was just before 22:00 that officers were deployed to reports of a situation developing at the budget chain hotel on Lind Hill, in the heart of the town centre.
More than 6 units responded at speed to the scene, where officers swiftly identified, subdued and detained a male.
Island Echo understands he was brought under control after being sprayed in the face with PAVA spray – part of a Police officer’s personal protective equipment.
The suspect has now been carried head first into an awaiting cell van, whilst calling out for help and stating he can’t see.
He is being taken into custody at Newport Police Station for questioning.
It has not yet been confirmed what he has been arrested on suspicion of, with further information expected from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary on Wednesday morning.
They should have used a cattle prod on him and any others that deserve it.
