Hampshire Constabulary is hoping for applicants from all walks of life, from those who wish to use this opportunity to pursue a career in the force, to those who want to become long term ‘career’ specials.
Being a Special Constable is an extremely rewarding volunteer opportunity but does require a certain amount of commitment which is the Police suggest you attend an awareness session before applying. A virtual awareness session is being held on Microsoft Teams on 25th March 2021 at 14:00.
This awareness session will give lots of information on the role of a Special Constable, including the recruitment and training process. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions directly to the team and officers will also have serving Special Constables present to give first-hand experiences of the role.

Obviously you have not a clue on what you are commenting on. Specials are fully trained police constables and are people who do exactly the same as any other police constable, except they do it for free.
For free? When ordinary constables get a decent salary, a shed load of perks and early retirement? Where do I sign up?

Yeah. What happened to the extra coppers promised when the police precept was increased by 7%?
And they could try paying volunteer police wages.

perhaps johnathan we ask the police to never, ever answer any calls from you and never investigate any crimes committed against you. This will then allow those of us who would rather engage in a life of crime, however, do not like the idea of jail, to be free to attack and rob you, without fear of arrest and incarceration.
have a think about that for a moment eh Johnathon, because some of us only abide by laws that carry prison sentences, simply because the police are there to ensure the consequences are endured – without them, we will have anarchy and the freedom to rob, assault and destroy with impunity.
If people feel this is right for them and want to be s Special, good for them. We certainly need more of a Police presence on our streets. All these HMO houses popping up all over the place. Certain ‘types of people’ in these places can’t be grateful for a safe and warm place to stay, they still feel the need to cause trouble and then the Police get involved. Drink and drugs have a greater appeal than living a quiet, peaceful, law abiding life. So yes, we do need more Police to deal with the ever increasing disturbances that seem to be blighting the island.
Specials are certainly more use to the community than PCSO’s who have no police powers. They are just a glorified public relations office. Specials are trained and have full police powers. I was a special initially to find out if I was suited to the job, then joined full time even though it meant a drop in salary. I am now a retired Police officer. Many who join as a special do so to ascertain if it is the right job for them before making the final step, so I welcome anyone who would like to join

PCSO’s are just wannabe’s – pretty pointless really as they have no police powers or authority to do anything. They just feel important walking around in a uniform.
