UPDATED: The National Police Air Service helicopter is tonight (Wednesday) searching for the occupants of a vehicle that has crashed into woodland at Thorness Bay Holiday Park near Gurnard.
Police are attending the incident on Thorness Lane off Rolls Hill after the currently unidentified vehicle crashed into woodland and the occupant(s) made off. It is currently unclear if the vehicle was being pursued by Police.
The Police helicopter is conducting an aerial search of the location between Porchfield and Cowes.
UPDATE @ 23:59 – One male is understood to have been detained by Police.
The vehicle remains in-situ at the scene and on-site security are working with Police.
No one is believed to have been injured.
UPDATE THURSDAY @ 11:00 – Hampshire Constabulary have this morning confirmed that the vehicle – a Saab – was being pursued by Police after the driver failed to stop for Police in Newport shortly after 22:30.
A 20-year-old male has been arrested for dangerous driving, failing to stop for Police and driving without insurance after decamping from vehicle at Thorness.
The National Police Air Service helicopter from Bournemouth conducted an aerial sweep of the area for any other occupants of the vehicle, however no other persons were located.
