UPDATED: The National Police Helicopter is in the skies above Sandown tonight (Tuesday) and is currently conducting an aerial sweep of the area following a Police pursuit.
Unconfirmed reports suggest a Police pursuit passed through the sleepy village of Adgestone earlier this evening, shortly before the NPAS helicopter began circling over nearby Sandown and Lake at around 22:30.
The helicopter is using its powerful ‘Nitesun’ search light near to The Fairway.
UPDATE @ 23:33 – Island Echo can confirm that Police have been involved in the pursuit of a Vauxhall Corsa this evening, which has been abandoned down a track near to Sandown and Shanklin Golf Club.
According to witnesses, the light blue car was chased through the country lanes of Adgestone and Queenbower before being dumped at the end of a gravel track. The occupants of the vehicle fled, but are understood to have been located by the Police helicopter, which guided ground units in.
The helicopter has since left the area.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY @ 00:23 – It has been confirmed that two suspects have been arrested by Police and are in custody tonight having been located by a dog unit.
It is currently unknown why the vehicle was being pursued, however Island Echo can reveal the registration plates belong to a green Ford.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY @ 13:30 – Hampshire Constabulary have this afternoon confirmed that an 18-year-old male from Ventnor and a 21-year-old male from Shanklin were both arrested last night on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
The Corsa failed to stop for Police in Sandown, prompting the pursuit.
UPDATE: Police have now charged 21-year-old Josh McGovern with several offences following Tuesday night’s Police pursuit.
McGovern has been charged in regards to dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, failing to stop and using a number plate not registered to the vehicle.
Meanwhile 18-year-old Kyle Jones has been charged in relation to fraudulently allowing the registration plate to be used.
Both men are due to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court later this month.
