UPDATED: Police units from across the Island are searching Ventnor seafront with the assistance of Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team tonight (Sunday).
The shoreline search between the Bandstand and The Spyglass Inn commenced shortly before 21:00. It is thought officers from both organisations are on the look out for a vulnerable person following a concern for welfare call.
Multiple Police vehicles are scattered along the Esplanade.
UPDATE @ 22:10 – 1 person is being rushed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance after being found by search teams. The person’s condition is currently unknown, but is not thought to be life-threatening.
The casualty is said to have been stretchered to safety over the rocky area close to The Spyglass Inn pub.
The National Police Air Service helicopter from Bournemouth was tasked to Ventnor, but stood down en-route.
HM Coastguard and Police have now left the scene.
