New guidance issued to police officers expressly states that social distancing is no longer enforceable by law.
In a document published by the College of Policing, officers are being told they cannot fine people for ignoring the 2-metre rule because it is not included in the amended coronavirus regulations. However, regulations around gatherings must still be observed (no more than 2 people, unless from the same household).
The guidance states that people are still not allowed to leave their homes without ‘reasonable excuse’, but the list of reasonable excuses has been expanded in line with the relaxation of rules.
English citizens are not allowed to travel to outdoor spaces in Wales or Scotland for recreation, because neither country has changed its lockdown laws as yet.
People are still not permitted to visit the homes of family and friends for social purposes, nor are people allowed to go on holiday or stay somewhere other than at the home address overnight.
As of today, reasonable excuses to leave the house examples include:
- collect goods from a business permitted to remain open (click and collect) and visit recycling centres, garden centres and outdoor sport courts
- take part in activity associated with the sale or letting of residential property – including visiting estate agents and attending house viewings
- visit public open spaces alone for recreation to promote their physical, mental or emotional wellbeing
- visit public open spaces with one member of another household for the above purpose or, as previously, alone or with members of their household
- take exercise with one member of another household or, as previously, alone or with members of their household

Sweden – no lockdown – population 10 million – deaths from covid – 3460 – equates to 0.0346% of the population
UK -lockdown – population 66 million – deaths from covid – 33186 – equates to 0.05% of the population.
As you can see – more people have died as a percentage of the population in the UK in comparison to Sweden that never locked down anything to the same degree as the UK
Lift the lockdown completely and go back to normal, people should stop whining and being a snowflake, as it is clearly evident that locking down, listening to politicians and having jack boot police dictating doesn’t work.

Regardless of whether its enforceable or not if you want this virus to subside in any way shape or form let’s all stick to it and be sensible.

Does it? Well Sweden used common sense, and look 3,200 deaths no lockdown, minimal social distancing,and an economy intact. Yes I here you say but they only have 10m people we have 66m. But if the virus is as deadly and contagious as the liars ( government) said, then they should have hundreds of thousands dead! Come on, this is kids stuff.

@mr justice Yes of course common sense plays a huge part in all this? And you talk about how Sweden’s approach has been successful as they haven’t been put into a lockdown but from reading the bits about Sweden that I have read it says that they were advised to social distance which could very well mean that the vast majority of that country used some common sense whilst going about there daily activities.
Dont get me wrong I’m not the governments biggest fan by far and I’m not a supporter of the track and trace app, but the advice on social distancing is a sensible approach to at least trying to minimise the spread as much as is practically possible.
All I’m saying is regardless of anyones opinion of whether or not the govt is lieing or whether or not it is as severe as what the govt is saying there has been a hell of alot of people contracting and sadly dying from this.
So regardless of your opinion which you are more than entitled to have and I completely respect what you are saying, having a bit of common sense isn’t a bad thing.
I agree with you sir, common sense does prevail, and I’m all for that attitude, like the majority of people would. Putting that to one side for a moment, the biggest problem I have is the lies. There’s no doubt in my mind that the covid 19 virus exists, but to claim it’s so deadly and contagious? The way the public has been lied to , and the fear that has been whipped up by government, media is quite disturbing , normal level headed ,intelligent people , making terrible comments, anyone would think ‘‘this is the Black Death!

Too many people have been brainwashed by this thing and brainwashed by false statistics. This ultra contagious,ultra infectious virus that is largely mild or asymptomatic in majority of carriers has been circulating around Europe since mid December at its earliest- this is a fact, China first case was mid November.
Can someone tell me with no social distancing or lockdown measures until the end of March, would logic not dictate that the virus has made its way around the population. Quarterly death statistics show no movement from the 5 year rolling averages for either q4 or q1 in this period of time the virus was allowed to roam for months on end. My point, there was no spike in excess winter deaths, no overwhelming of services etc. Too many discrepancies with death statistics and how many of these can actually be attributed solely to covid. Quarter 1 in 2018 had more deaths than in 2020 with no covid roaming around!
@mrjustice yes I see where you are coming from I do believe that there probably has been a bit of scare mongering going on that’s just the govt and media in general for you.
But if measures were not put in this virus could well have the potential to kill a hell of a lot more people than if no measures were put in at all.

As the Police can’t enforce CV distancing, nor it seems get those who break the law out of a car, nor catch speeding and dangerous driving motorists, one may ask what do they do?

Yet another government c**k up! It would be laughable if it wasn’t such a serious situation. The Tory’s really do need to get it right because people need consistency with instructions that make sense. I really feel sorry for our police force, I bet they’ve had a belly full of Boris! They can’t enforce any of it what so ever ,none of it is actually law , all the fines they are handing out are illegal as well . Any officer acting in this manner should be put under citizens arrest and handcuffed with his or her own cuffs
