19 children from the Isle of Wight’s Starlight Boutique Dance Academy travelled to Worthing on Sunday to compete in their first BDO Street Dance Championships.
A whole host of other groups from across the South Coast took part in the competition, with Starlight going up against 8 other dance schools in their category.
The competition was tough with a variety of street styles. The Island dancers, aged between 7 and 14, performed brilliantly and the best they have to date. Their routine was clean, polished and providing huge amounts of energy from start to finish. They were awarded 2nd place by 3 industry professional judges.
Michelle Davis, Dance Teacher and company co-director, told Island Echo:
“For their first BDO comp we prepared them to just have fun and take what they could from the experience, they didn’t expect to place let alone in the top 3. They were delighted.
“As their dance teacher I am so proud of their determination and hard work perfecting their routines throughout rehearsals in the lead up to the event and it paid off to see them perform with such confidence. They were so pleased to be representing the Isle of Wight. They now look forward to performing in a variety summer festivals and events in the next few months and then onto their next competition in September.
“We would like to kindly thank their Sponsor CR Mortgages for providing their whole team uniform. They wore it with pride”.
