rydebootspillsdistrubedUPDATED: A serious incident has occurred at Boots in Ryde this morning (Sunday), resulting in an ‘all unit’ response to the scene.

In total 7 Police units, including roads policing officers, responded to the High Street, Ryde at around 07:40 and are currently on the scene with staff from the national chemist store.

Island Echo understands pills from the on-site pharmacy have been ‘disturbed’ and that when a member of staff arrived at the business this morning, they discovered at least one person inside the building.

Witnesses have told Island Echo that alarms were sounding for ‘quite some time’.

rydebootspillsdistrubed4Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have been treating at least one person involved in the incident and have conveyed them to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport. It is currently unknown if they were attacked by an intruder.

Scenes of Crime forensics officers have arrived in Ryde to examine the crime scene. A Dog Unit has also arrived.

rydebootspillsdistrubed7UPDATE @ 09:00 – Uniformed officers on the ground and scenes of crime experts are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding this morning’s incident.

A Police dog has been sent into the store with its handler.

A witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, says Police appeared to have detained one male earlier this morning. Island Echo can confirm that Police are seeking at least one other person in relation to the ongoing investigation.

Ryde High Street remains open to traffic (light) and pedestrians.

UPDATE @ 10:35 – A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that one male has been arrested and detained by Police.

The suspect has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital with unknown injuries, accompanied by Police.
