The Phoenix Choir will be celebrating its 10th anniversary on Sunday 21st April.
The 50-strong mixed choir, with its roots in Wootton Bridge, was founded on 21st April 2009. The group perform easy listening songs under the banner of ‘From Pavarotti to Presley’.
Of the 17 founder members, 10 are still singing with Phoenix.
The choir have performed on more than 50 occasions, mostly in Island churches, and have supported 40 local charities and good causes. Nearly £50,000 has been raised to date.
Choir members come from various parts of the Island and between them there is a wide range of backgrounds and varying levels of choral singing knowledge from beginners to experienced soloists.
Phoenix’s Musical Director is Robin Burnett, who was born and bred on the Island. He writes all the song arrangements, records and plays the accompaniment, rehearses the choir and is the MD at their concert performances and he can closely relate to the choir’s signature tune ‘Music’.
The choir perform 6 times each year and their first performance in 2019 is at All Saints’ Church, Gurnard in aid of The Friends Of Northwood Cemetery. All of their concerts offer free admission with a retiring collection.
