The price of petrol and diesel on the Isle of Wight, which has been creeping up for months, is now at an almost 8-year high, according to the latest data.
The average price of fuel across the country sat at 132.19p earlier this week, with Islanders paying around 129.9p for petrol and 130.9p for diesel. This is the highest it has been for petrol since October 2013 and diesel since June 2019 – and comes just a year after prices plummet to almost a pound a litre.
Families are now paying around £72.70 for 55 litres of fuel and is reflected by the price of a barrel of crude oil at $75.82. This went up 10% in June alone.
Luke Bosdet, the AA’s fuel price spokesman, said:
“Another speculator-driven surge in oil and commodity fuel prices will once again heat up driver anger.
“With travel abroad so badly disrupted, car traffic still down on pre-pandemic levels and Covid flare-ups being reported around the world, what’s happening with oil and pump prices doesn’t really make sense to a UK motorist.”

It is cheaper here than the mainland, i have just returned from Scotland and in the highlands near Glencoe one garage was selling diesel for £1.65, the average off motorway prices are between £1,32 and £1.34
Some people have said that it is cheaper than ‘the mainland’. One can buy most motor fuel between the Cromwell Road and Knightsbridge for less than selfish car drivers pay on the ISLE OF WIGHT. I don’t like cars, but I don’t like inaccuracy, or decent taxpayers being ripped off.
