PEROWNE WAY CORDONED OFF FOLLOWING TWO-CAR COLLISION

perownewaymedicalepisode2UPDATED: Perowne Way in Sandown has been cordoned off and closed to motorists following a two-car collision this afternoon (Tuesday).

Police are in attendance at the scene near to Sandham Close, where it is apparent a silver Renault Laguna Estate has collided with a parked silver Nissan Micra.

Witnesses have described to Island Echo how it appeared the driver of the Renault suffered some kind of medical episode at the wheel, with the passenger leaning over to assist.

Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have attended the scene, however have since left. A Rapid Response Vehicle was mobilised to the incident alongside an ambulance.

The area surrounding both vehicles has been cordoned off – an unusual practice for a minor road traffic collision.

Motorists are being diverted by Police via Lake Hill and The Fairway at Stower Place and Sandham Close.

UPDATE @ 17:38 – Perowne Way, Sandown has now reopened in both directions.

The vehicles involved have been recovered by Bartletts Service Station.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY: It is understood the driver of the car suffered a medical episode at the wheel and is receiving treatment in hospital.
