ISO 9001 sets out the criteria for a quality management system and can be used by any organisation, large or small, regardless of its field of activity. This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including understanding the context of the organisation and its interested parties, a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement.
The Board of Directors of People Matter IW made the decision to work towards certification through the ISO 9001 standard when the organisation was originally formed in 2011. Since then the organisation has worked very hard on their quality assurance and management systems within The Independent Living Centre. This has involved both volunteers and all the staff in refining many processes.
In November 2015 People Matter IW and The Independent Living Centre first attained certification as an ISO 9001:2008 recognised charity and company. That standard has now been superseded by the new, very different 2015 standard.
At the beginning of September, People Matter IW and The Independent Living Centre underwent a full audit – an external review of their quality assurance and management systems. The objectives of the audit were fully achieved meaning that ISO 9001:2015 Certification has been granted up to September 2019.
This award is another recognition of the dedication and the professionalism demonstrated by the directors, management, staff and volunteers and gaining the award marks a coming of age for People Matter IW as an organisation.
