The event, which is in its second year, attracted all ages and abilities – from grandparents to grandchildren, novices to the more serious runners, including those who took the opportunity to train for forthcoming marathons.
All enjoyed the stunning setting of the Osborne estate and crossed the finish line to receive their special Osborne Run medal.
Among the participants were a number of Mountbatten nurses, staff and volunteers. Over £9,000 has been raised so far, and further sponsorship is expected to add to that total.
Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive, said:
“This was a great event in a magnificent setting and we’re very grateful indeed to English Heritage and Osborne for their support and allowing us to use the grounds. We are also so very thankful to all who took part and raised funds to support the work of Mountbatten, as well as raising awareness of our work to support Islanders facing death, dying and bereavement. Our events wouldn’t happen without our volunteers who give up their time so generously in so many ways, a big thank you to them too!”
The funds raised will go towards ensuring Mountbatten’s services continue to be free and available to Islanders when they need them most.
“As an independent charity, we must find around £7.5m each and every year. There is a growing need for our services and we will continue to need ever more support from our community in the future, which is why we are so indebted to those who take part in events such as Osborne Run.”
