Ryde Rowing Club has been forced to cancel its annual regatta due to the ongoing works by Southern Water to repair a collapsed sewer pipe at Appley.
This Saturday (7th August 2021) would have likely seen teams from across the South come together for Ryde’s regatta – which had already been delayed due to COVID-19.
However, organisers have been left with no other decision but to cancel this year’s event due to the disruption caused by the sewage works. Back in January, the main sewer pipe for all of Ryde’s wastewater collapsed, leading to a major repair scheme which is not set to finish until at least October.
Ryde Rowing Club says it has faced a considerable loss in income because of the cancelled regatta and the general disruption to their activities and members. Compensation has been sought from Southern Water.
