A conservatory has been destroyed by fire at a remote woodland nudist site on the Isle of Wight this lunchtime (Saturday).
3 appliances from Ryde, Newport and Shanklin are currently on scene in the village of Havenstreet, where a blaze has engulfed a conservatory – and partially spread to the roof of the adjoining building.
It was just before 12:50 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service responded to a 999 call.
A quick response has seen the first crew on scene – Ryde – successfully contain and extinguish the blaze using a main jet, hose reel jets and breathing apparatus.
With damping down continuing, a water carrier from Freshwater has been mobilised to provide additional water supplies due to the location of the incident – at the centre of a woodland clearing used by naturists to bare all.
The cause of the fire is unclear – perhaps a naked flame.
An Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) was mobilised from Newport, but was stood down upon arrival.

I bet there’s a few roasted chestnuts around!
“Oh no, all my clothes are destroyed… What can I do?…”
“The cause of the fire is unclear – perhaps a naked flame.”
Of course! What else would it be?
So Island Echo thinks the fire was caused by a naked flame.
Well, what would one expect ?
By the look of the photographs there was a fire down below
A ‘naked flame’…. what else did they find naked ????
At least it wasn’t a bush fire, all thanks for
gillette.
naked flame….
At least it was an happy ending.
Could have been a balls up.
“The cause of the fire is unclear – perhaps a naked flame.”
Was that sentence “intentional”
The “naked flame’ is obviously Island Echo’s little joke. But readers seem to think it was done accidentally.
