Island Line will be suspended later this evening (Monday) due to staff shortages, it has been announced.
A member of traincrew will be unavailable meaning there will be no trains between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin after 19:30
The last train from Ryde Pier Head will depart at 18:45. The last train from Shanklin will depart at 19:15 and terminate at Ryde St Johns Road.
South Western Railway have arranged for buses to run between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin in both directions and taxis to run between Ryde Esplanade and Ryde Pier Head.

You are having a laugh. You only need a driver a guard and signal man . And the signalman could go to sleep as their is only one unit running.
Numpty, if you knew how the railway works you wouldn’t say such a stupid comment
What – are they actually for real – no trains for about a year – then stoppages due to staff shortages, signal failures and cables on the line, almost immediately – someone needs sacking.
Do you know how the railway actually works, or do you just like to be an Internet troll.
As there are sposed to be two trains running every hour as promised, and now there is only one train operating on a long term basis.
How can they be short staffed ?
Surely simple maths means they must be double staffed.
Could you imagine this happening on the mainland ?
They used to blame old rolling stock and a lack of spare parts, they can not use that excuse no more. So now they are copying the ferries, Mr blogs did not turn up for work today.
Do they think that we are f***’n idiots or something.
Tar mac the entire line, run battery shuttle buses instead, it would ease traffic on the roads, and be useful for thousands of drivers NOT just a hand full of passengers a day, most who skip paying. And far less diffiuclt to drive as any ex bus driver etc could drive a battery bus.
What a rediculous comment. Do you actually use the line? Guards go through collecting as many fares as possible
Can anyone recall Southern Railway or even British Rail not running a service due to staff shortage ?
Well its better than having no trains to run.
It’s Monday club night at Fowlers
Remind me again just how the service is better than the old one?
Why have half of all comments been deleted including mine IE ?
Island rail have enough staff to manage two trains per hour, so why can they not manage to manage one, because one person never turned up for work.
They used to blame signal and points failure ( new track and signals ).
They used to blame old rolling stock and parts ( new train ).
No more excuses, so now they are following the ferries lead….Joe blogs never turned up for work today.
Disgraceful service at present.
the I.O.W transport and service is a right shambles .this only forces people into useing there cars
