A 24-year-old Isle of Wight woman who ordered parcels of cannabis to feed her drug habit, which were discovered by a Royal Mail worker at a local sorting office, has been fined £80.
Paris Fleet, 24, of Garden Way in Newport, pleaded guilty to attempting to possess a controlled drug of Class B (cannabis) when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that on 13th October, a Royal Mail worker sorting parcels noticed 2 packages addressed to Fleet that smelt of cannabis.
Police were called and when at the sorting office, officers seized both parcels. Inside cannabis and cannabis-related liquids were found.
Officers visited the address listed on the parcel and had to make arrangements for Fleet to attend a voluntary interview due to her looking after her child at the time.
In her Police interview, Fleet admitted that the drugs were hers and that she was a heavy user, often consuming up to 7 grams a day.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that his client was having issues with her accommodation at the time and struggled with looking after her child and her 2 teenage siblings whom she also has care of. He added that the 24-year-old didn’t want anything to do with street dealers instead buying illegal substances online.
Magistrates ordered the 24-year-old to pay a £80 fine, costs of £85 and a £32 surcharge.

How did the postal worker know what cannabis smell’s like
Postman Pot.
Probably because most of the Island smells of it.
You cannot be serious…
Looks like she really needs a break in life.
I was thinking the same. Hope she gets help
Police are currently testing the cannabis for purity and would appreciate the public’s help with any Jaffa cakes or Kit Kats they could spare.
Cannabis will be legalised for personal use in the next 2 years. Dealers won’t make any money after that. Leave this poor woman alone.
My thoughts exactly
Hate to agree with you but I cant help but notice that the countries finances really blew up about the same time everybody gave up smoking. Coincidence??
Prohibition does not work, it’s been known to be the case for the last 100 years. If they legalise it, extending the licence that pubs have so they are the ones get to sell it. We’ll get more tax and the drug gangs will go bust. 99% of police corruption is by drug gangs. It is well documented. All of that will too go away.
Dealing with Addiction by making it illegal is lunacy.
I don’t smoke it and do not want to, I don’t like the smell either. But I too think it should be legal.
Once you have smelt cannabis it is hard to forget it. Well done postie for sniffing it out. Wish the safe use of some cannabis could be legalised as it does have some benefits if you remove the other side effects of the stuff.
