Newport Parish Council has assumed management of the pavilion building at Victoria Recreation Ground following a successful handover from Newport Victoria Sports & Social Club Ltd.
In 2015 the Parish Council signed a lease for Victoria Recreation Ground and saved the pavilion building from the risk of closure when the Isle of Wight Council could no longer administer the site.
Since that time the Parish Council has made modest improvements to the building and recreation ground areas. Currently the building is used for short mat bowls, table tennis, petanque, as cricket and rugby changing facilities, a dance hall and by dog agility groups, with a soon-to-be licensed bar.
Over the next 12-months Newport Parish Council will be looking to engage with community groups and volunteers to help run the building for the benefit of Newport residents and the various groups that use the facilities. The Parish Council would be delighted to hear from sporting/community groups who are looking for new or alternative accommodation and room hire.
The Parish Council would like to thank the outgoing committee of Newport Sports & Social Club who have run the pavilion for over a decade as volunteers; and special thanks goes to Brian Knight for many years devoted service as Chairman of club.
