Staff at a 60-bed residential care home near Newport are celebrating after achieving an overall ‘Good’ rating in their latest CQC inspection report, published on 5th June 2019.
The Care Quality Commission rated Blackwater Mill Residential Home ‘Good’ in 4 out of 5 areas at the inspection (Effective, Caring, Responsive & Well Led). Care homes can either be rated Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement or Inadequate.
The report underlined the kindness of the staff and the person-centred care. One resident said to inspectors, “The staff are always available when I need them, they have time for me, I am never rushed.” Another stated, “The staff are very kind and caring towards me, they know how I like things done and they take care to do it that way.”
Manager Lesley Shaw, who has been at the home for over 7 years is absolutely delighted at the result:
“I am extremely proud of the whole team. We have worked incredibly hard this year to get to where we are and it is wonderful to see our efforts recognised by the regulator. I would like to thank the team for their positive attitude and efforts.
“We are so pleased that the quality of food was noticed as we pride ourselves on on varied, nutritious and seasonal menus.”
Provider Buckland Care, a family run business which owns 12 nursing & residential homes across the South of England, is funding a staff barbecue to thank the team for their hard work over the past year. Blackwater Mill has a sister home, Inglefield Nursing & Residential Home in Freshwater.
