Users of the Vectis Playing Field off Wellington Road in Newport can now benefit from a new stile to access the facility.
A new stile has been installed by contractors working for the Isle of Wight Council as part of the on going work to construct a temporary car park for staff of Christ the King College.
The temporary car park is being put in place due to the closure of the staff car park whilst building works take place at the college.
Councillor Chris Whitehouse of the Newport West ward says:
“The old stile was dilapidated and potentially dangerous. What’s more it was redundant as the fence alongside it had been broken and people were simply walking around it. The fence has been restored, and the new stile is both solid and attractive”.
The temporary car parking facility is nearing completion and should be in use before the new school year in September.
Cllr Whitehouse has welcomed the development adding:
“Parking has been a nightmare locally since the construction work at Christ the King began. This temporary facility will offer welcome relief to local residents.
“More good news on local parking is that contractors working on the Christ the King site will be able to park their vehicles on the Lower College site during the summer holidays rather than in local roads”.
