A total of 36 people have now sadly died with COVID-19 at St Mary’s Hospital, it has been confirmed.
The latest death in the Island’s only hospital was recorded on Wednesday. Since the start of May the total number of coronavirus-related deaths at St Mary’s has increased by 7 from 29 to 36.
58 people have now died from COVID-19 across the Isle of Wight overall. Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that 22 people have died outside of the hospital environment.
As of 22nd May, 185 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been recorded on the Isle of Wight.
Nationally, the total number of lab-confirmed UK cases sits at 254,195 with 36,393 associated deaths.
Will be of interest and fear to see if the numbers increase dramatically over the next month or so. Sad that we now just accept the ‘only one’ more has died. It is clearly not so for the families involved but now the rest of us have little shock to such news. Until it is someone we care for.
We need a vaccine, OR in the meantime for the Government to make full head wear to cover our entire heads, with a filter system so we can travel and work in full safety.
They did it with gas masks in the war, and with modern materials easy to wash with hydrogen peroxide etc, cant be ‘that’ hard to make surely. Then we could sit on trains and planes etc, without the need for social distancing and the transport could make a profit, which is near impossible if we have to sit away from others. They need all seats covered by a bottom, not a few.

You have done no research, because if you had you would have seen on the governments website that they have down graded the virus, as did the cdc ,after testing the virus on surfaces,the results shown that cov19 does not live long enough on surfaces to cause a threat of infection. But general public dont bother researching, just believe what that are soon fed by the liars( government)

Can’t argue with that, as nothing to do with amounts tested, or not, just if 40 are taken in, only 20 ish will come out, and THEN just what life long damage they have we are NOT being told.

Sorry are you trying to say covid-19 has a 50% mortality rate? Were are you getting your figures from? It has a 0.4% rate of death and that’s factual. The cold has killed more, flu killed 10 times that amount each year, 99% of deaths have other underlying conditions, do you realise that you dont die with a virus you die from a virus? So if a hiv sufferer goes into hospital with pneumonia its put down as a hiv death, but the same doesn’t apply for a flu virus, if you think were all at danger because some selfish chinaman decided to eat mat soup you need to seriously get some better news sources.
Absolutely baffles me how people are ok with having all their rights stripped away for something that’s so far in over 10 weeks affected just 185 people and killed 58 out of a population of 140,000! especially considering the fact that the test is completely unreliable aswell so that’s even assuming they actually had “covid” wake up people you are being scammed big time

You can`t argue away the dead, but maybe the UK as a NATION should consider living slightly more healthily in the future.
You can argue that the death rate globally hasn’t changed in average from last year, you can argue that deaths have been reclassified as covid-19 when in FACT it was not. You can argue that the inventor of the PCR test that is used to test for covid does not actually test for a isolated virus, only a culture of a virus, that of which we live with thousands in our body at any one time, you can argue that that the jump in numbers isn’t due to a bump up in infection but a bump up in the number tested, j could go on and on and on but the point has been made.

Try telling that to the 185 people affected Jake or the family of the 58 that have died! If you think you’re immune or exempt from it, go live your life but if you catch it, don’t come and infect me or my family and friends and don’t put any pressure on our NHS. Leave that to the unfortunate ones that get it due to people like you!

Jake, the reason it’s only killed 58 people so far is BECAUSE we’ve been in lockdown! Think what the number of deaths would have been if we’d all been out there spreading it around.

I would take a guess and say the figures, including deaths would be a damn sight more if we all did not go into lockdown don’t you think? Of course it is no consolation to the families who have lost loved ones to this virus, but we have seen many less cases on this island because of most staying safe indoors. Let’s hope we don’t see the infected numbers “spike” due to the irresponsible “beach goers” not keeping their distance from each other!!!!! God help the poor police once the pubs open.

Yeah Smithy, I can also confirm there are second homeowners and people staying on the island that are not resident, far too many of them. They’re irresponsible, selfish and so arrogant they think that the rules don’t apply to them.

If these figures are correct, there are 92 people that caught covid 19 not accounted for? Where are they? How many are still in hospital? How many are isolating at home?

I dont think anyone is in denialing that there is in fact a virus,of course there is. But the way its portrayed is nothing but criminal, and yes they will blow the economy of the world,because this is about power and control . As I’ve said many times please research agenda 21/ 2030,the government even have it on their website, this is the end goal. Not a conspiracy, fact.
Why isnt something done about the people that are coming over hear to their holiday homes .only takes one with the virus to spread it .

I fully agree that only island residents should be here and NO ONE other than essential people be allowed on ferries and if they do slip through, this side of the Solent should be manned and they should be made to return to the mainland with no refund. One point though, I reside on a holiday park and my car, bought on the island, doesn’t have an island registration plate so I hope I’m not looked on as a tourist as I really am not one.
