Local amateur gardener, Lucas Richards, has won Best Junior Gardener in the inaugural Wilko Amateur Gardener of the Year competition.
Lucas, from Nettlestone, entered the picture of his garden into the national competition. Lucas was then selected by his category judge, Gardening Editor at Sunday Express, Louise Midgley, as the winner of the best junior gardener category.
The local lad has bagged himself a £100 Wilko gift card to spend on his impressive garden, plus a personalised trophy.
Lucas said:
“When I received the news that I had won the Wilko junior garden category I couldn’t believe it. It’s made me so happy and I can’t stop smiling. I am now planning for next years’ competition.
“With the prize money, I will buy new things for my garden. I have been interested in gardening since I was very young and I hope one day to join the gardeners on the Gardeners’ World television programme.”
Lloyd Taylor, Head of Garden at Wilko said:
“We were really pleased by the quality of entries and all of the gardens and projects submitted. The result was a great selection of beautiful outdoor spaces.
“There can only be one winner per category and we were thoroughly impressed with Lucas’s photo and the hard work he had obviously put into his garden, as was his category judge.”
The Amateur Gardener of the Year competition was launched by Wilko in 2017 with the aim of finding some the UK’s most talented amateur gardeners.
