Children from Nettlestone Primary School embarked on a project to clean their parish beaches from Seagrove Bay to Puckpool Point earlier this month.
Over 3 days, the young ‘guardians of the oceans’ removed a staggering 15kg of litter with the help of parents, 10 community volunteers and 4 local business volunteers.
The school has teamed up with Surfers Against Sewage and adopted the oceans’ plastic problem as their theme for the year.
The beach clean was in support of the Isle of Wight Day Coastline Clean-up, but is part of their wider project. Once sorted and weighed, some of the single-used plastic items found lurking along the coastline will be kept and used for art projects which are being organised for the children in collaboration with Seaview and Nettlestone Community Partnership.
