Investigations into the discovery of an item at the foot of Culver Cliff saw Coastguard Rescue Officers descend over the edge earlier this afternoon (Sunday).
It was just before 13:00 that Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were mobilised to the East Wight beauty spot, to investigate an item that was found at the bottom of the chalk cliffs.
Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat was also launched, from its temporary berth at Bembridge Harbour.
A cliff man was lowered from the top some 350ft onto the rocks below with the lifeboat standing off as a safety measure.
However, it has been confirmed that the item discovered was a plastic roadworks barrier.
HM Coastguard initially said they had discovered a piece of metal.
With no further investigations needed, Solent Coastguard stood down all resources at around 14:00.

Has this rescue team not got a drone to asses this type of incident before committing personnel and putting them at risk .
A good exercise it may of been but !!!
How does a road works barrier end up in such a place.
