A search and rescue mission is underway in the depths of Niton Undercliff following an incident on a remote section of the coast between Ventnor and St Lawrence.
At around 16:00 this afternoon (Tuesday), HM Coastguard was alerted to an incident in the South Wight, thought to be a concern for welfare call.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and the Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were initially tasked, alongside Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Now, Coastguard Rescue Officers are on the ground in the vicinity of Binnel Bay with Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat holding off at sea.
Due to the remote location of the incident, Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent has been scrambled and is now overhead.
