Houses planned on greenfield land at Place Road in Cowes have been met with objections by Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely.
If permission is granted, the latest application for houses along Place Road will see a further 14 homes constructed – something Mr Seely says will put more pressure on local services and infrastructure.
He has said:
“This application should not be viewed in isolation. We have recently seen the construction of 93 houses at Meadow View Park on Place Road. The addition of another 14 houses, and potentially a further 27 on top of that, will put further strain on GP and dental services and also schools.
“There will inevitably also be an increase in cars in the area adding more traffic to an already busy main road.”
Mr Seely has gone on to say that the plans do not address local need.
“We need to build for Islanders which includes young people looking for first homes and older people looking to downsize. This means we need more one- and two-bedroom properties. 12 out of the 14 homes are planned to be three- and four-bedroom houses. This does not address the needs of Islanders.”
Bob says that the development would create a ‘concrete corridor’ between the 2 villages of Gurnard and Northwood, with the removal of a natural green barrier resulting in the lose of identity between the 2 villages.
The MP adds:
“We should prioritise the construction of new homes on brownfield sites instead of ripping up green areas of land that differentiate and protect the unique character of each Island town and village and provide important habitats for our wildlife”.
Yet virtually silent of the destruction of Ryde’s vast green farms to be built over.
Seems he cares ONLY for his staunch supporters quality of life, NOT the trees, hedgerows, and ancient grassland which supports so many millions of lives, UNLESS such is near the ‘well-to-do’ supporters, then, suddenly, wildlife ‘matters’.
All in this together imo, as large developments can afford many, expensive thank you cards, to those limiting their objections, as they ‘do’ IF it is not near ‘their ilk’.

Hey Bob, next time you come over for a sausage at Seaview, please stop off in Ryde and sort out the developments here. If you think a handful of new houses in Cowes is gonna put pressure on local resources, how about a 1,000+ in Ryde?
Seaview had better build a high wall. And NOT for sea defences now.
Huge amounts of new blood is soon to be ‘encouraged’ here by our local ‘authority’ as they ‘gain’ EXTRA payment for taking in over spill from mainland cou ncils, who will fill, and soon over fill the thousands of new homes being built over Ryde’s ancient farmland.
Many of these tenants are used to taking what they will lack from being jobless, as with thousands more seeking declining, low paying vacancies, crime, drug growing/dealing will bring misery to all areas and the more affluent areas will not escape totally from the crime wave.
This cou ncil and our selective Bob’s limited hypocritical comments, when it ‘suits’ both need to be voted out now.
…and Gunville and Wootton and Rookley and Calbourne and Ryde etc.

Seldom is very selective about which projects he objects to. I wonder why?
He must use any influence he has to stop these massive developments. Apart from the unwanted influx of over-spills, the major issue is the totally, already, quite inadequate infrastructure. Healthcare especially.

If he did, then he would be demanding action being taken over ALL the developments on all the greenfield sites and not being selective with his words.
How we going to cope in say 3 years time ,hospital cant cope now nor roads ect all houses no tourism
Do we hear loud objections from Mr. Seeley regarding the total destruction of the beautiful, wildlife rich Smallbrook valley? Not a sausage. Not even half of one. Some people know where their barbecue buns are buttered. Good luck with the nice houses they own when their lights are on a timer all year it is not Cowes week…. Burglars’ paradise.

We will have a ruddy Concrete Jungle with all the planned building .
How many times do we have to say we have 1 hospital, what strain will all these housing projects put on the whole medical system Dr’s Dentists etc.
Then we start on our roads the infrastructure will not cope with the extra traffic they will create.
And then their is our wildlife, who is standing up for them poor souls where will they go ?
And before long (once we do resume some sort of normality ) no tourism because who wants to visit a Concrete Jungle??????
Then how will the youth get jobs because there won’t be any.
Oh hang on they could become gardeners in the new builds !!!!
