Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely is backing calls for new volunteers to come forward and help deliver information and advice services to Island residents.
Citizens Advice Isle of Wight says it needs volunteers to help answer the phones to ensure Island residents get the help they need.
Paul Savill, CEO at the charity, said:
“The current demand for our telephone advice service is high.
“People commonly call about changes to their income, access to benefits, housing issues, money and tax.
“Volunteering can be done from home and we provide full training which is currently being delivered online.
“We’ve had lots of success in helping volunteers gain experience and build up their confidence if they are looking to get back into work and we have amazing volunteers who have worked with us for many years.”
Bob Seely MP said:
“With the effects of the pandemic being felt by many, we need to make sure that Islanders are getting the support they need.
“The process of getting support can be a daunting one for many so getting advice can be key in helping people to access the support they need.
“I know there will be people out there looking for work experience or perhaps looking to volunteer from home, so I encourage them to come forward and offer their expertise.”

‘The process of getting support can be daunting’? Yes Seeley, it probably is. A not fit for purpose system designed by the conservatives to make getting assistance as difficult as possible for the most vulnerable people in our society. Outrageous policy. Inhumane implementation, and Seeley has the nerve to ask the good people of the IOW to help. Go figure.

Come forward and help says Seldom, who’s default position is to do exactly the opposite of that. Maybe you should ask your partners in crime in the Commons to rethink the whole welfare system which is to a large degree part of the reason why some are in need of this assistance, Or maybe your mates could fund Citizens Advice rather than getting this service provided on your behalf for free? Didn’t think so.
