Motorists are being warned about icy conditions on the Island’s roads overnight and into tomorrow morning (Monday), with temperatures set to plummet as the evening continues.
The Met Office have issued a yellow severe weather warning for ice across the region and say that rain – or sleet/wet snow – will fall onto already frozen surfaces by the early hours, turning conditions icy.
Island Roads will be gritting the road network from 18:00 with forecasters predicting temperatures to drop to freezing and road temperatures dropping even lower to -1c. A second gritting run will take place at 05:00 tomorrow morning.
Although gritting will take place, drivers are being advised to exercise caution.
Yesterday (Saturday) two vehicles were involved in a road traffic collision on Burnt House Lane – an untreated country lane. Later in the day another vehicle was involved in a more serious incident on nearby Briddlesford Road during a heavy hailstorm.
