The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has rushed to the aid of a motorcyclist who has been injured in a crash on the main road at Hale Common this afternoon (Thursday).
The incident involving a Vauxhall Astra and a Honda scooter has occurred near the junction of Hale Common and Watery Lane, between Amazon World and Jubilee Garden Centre.
Police and paramedics are on scene having been alerted to the incident at 14:30.
Due to the severity of the situation, the air ambulance has responded from Southampton directly to the scene of the crash, landing in a field just metres away from the casualty.
The injured motorcyclist has sustained a serious leg injury, Police have confirmed.
The main Newport to Sandown road is closed in both directions. Traffic is backed up in the area with local diversions in place.
Motorists should avoid the area for the time being.
UPDATE @ 15:20 – Flying medics remain on scene tending to the injured rider who is expected to be taken to hospital imminently.
UPDATE @ 16:05 – The casualty has been transferred, by air ambulance, to Southampton General Hospital.
Island Echo understands that the road is to remain closed for a while longer whilst investigations take place.
UPDATE @ 17:45 – The incident has been cleared and the road has reopened once again.
What has happened to “Enough is Enough”. I would have thought this would have been an irresistible subject for him to lecture everybody on? Not being in the know, surely a leg injury could have been dealt with at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth? They can deal with the Air Ambulance landing.
