Staff from Morrisons in Newport banded together with CLIC Sargent on World Cancer Day 2018 – Sunday 4th February – to raise awareness of how cancer affects children and young people and to also raise vital funds.
As the UK’s biggest children and young people’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent is there to support children and families with the emotional, financial and practical impacts of a cancer diagnosis.
The team at South Street managed to raise a fantastic £1082.45 on World Cancer Day, making a total of £2,111 for the month. This total includes the sale of CLIC Sargent Bands Against Cancer.
Community Champion, Leah Tosdevin said:
“I really enjoy fundraising in store for CLIC Sargent and I was amazed that we raised almost £1,100 in one day. I would really like to thank the volunteers involved; the Earley Family, the Kimber Family, Morrisons staff Andy, Stephen, Michelle, Sophie and my daughter Lily.”
Liz Blunt, Local CLIC Sargent Fundraising Engagement Manager for the Isle of Wight, said:
“Leah has done a fantastic job at encouraging the staff and customers to buy World Cancer Day bands and put on a great tombola to raise vitally needed funds for CLIC Sargent. Special thanks to the volunteers including the Kimber family and Earley family for their huge help on the day. Also, a big thank you to Leah, all the staff and customers for buying and donating second hand books, which I understand is on target to raise an amazing £5,000 in six months by the end of this month.”
CLIC Sargent was chosen to be Morrisons’ charity partner following a colleague vote in January 2017. The partnership will last until 2020 with a target of £8million, and has already raised £3million after just 11 months.
