Shoppers on the Isle of Wight now have a new choice of grocery delivery service as Morrisons launches home delivery on the Island.
The supermarket has created 27 new jobs – customer assistants and team leaders – specifically to fulfil the online orders.
A new Home Delivery Hub has been built on to the Newport store where customers’ orders will be collated and readied for dispatch.
3 new green delivery vans have been given names by Newport store colleagues. They are: Rex, in recognition of the large number of dinosaur bones found on the island; Robin, named after Robin Hill Country Park and Pluto, the name of the first under-ocean pipeline to join the island to the mainland.
The Morrisons service will offer one-hour rather than two-hour delivery slots and food prepared by its expert foodmakers. The supermarket’s vans will begin delivering groceries to homes from 8.00am each day.
One of shoppers’ biggest concerns when shopping online is freshness, so Morrisons will be offering a fresh check whereby customers will be able to confirm the freshness of the products before they accept them.
Store Manager, Tom McMullen, said:
“We listened to customers on the Isle of Wight and they told us that they would like the option to order their shopping online, and have it delivered to their home. Our home delivery service will be close to actually being in the store and selecting the items yourself.”

The Newport store recently underwent a £1million Fresh Look refurbishment that included a new café, the introduction of the full Nutmeg clothing range, a new in-store made pizza counter and the new Morrisons Cook and Home range.
