The driver of a Renault Modus has escaped injury this afternoon (Monday) after his vehicle smashed into bollards and railings in the upper reaches of Ventnor. The crash has occurred on Ocean View Road near the junction with Grove Road and Southgrove Road. At the scene, a blue Modus has careered head-on into solid metal bollards and railings, leaving the vehicle with heavy front-end damage. Island Roads is attending due to the damage caused to street furniture – which was only installed in early 2023 The controversial bollards were installed following a detailed assessment last year, with additional measures agreed between Island Roads and the Isle of Wight Council to ensure this location met modern safety requirements in terms of preventing vehicles leaving the carriageway. All roads remain open in the area – particularly important as Ocean View Road is 1 of the only roads in and out of the town of Ventnor at present.
